Miami Arts and Culture: More than sun and sand
Most people don’t associate the city of Miami with arts and culture. It is more likely to be known to tourists as a popular cruise port and gateway to its miles of sandy beaches.
Serving 18 different cruise brands and berthing 42 ships, millions of cruisers pass through the port of Miami, which has been called the “Cruise Capital of the World.” The crystal waters and silvery sands of the greater Miami Beaches, often captured in movies and TV shows, stretch from South Beach to Sunny Isles Beach. Wherever you find yourself, there’s an abundance of interesting places to stay, both old and new.
Over the last decade, the downtown area of Miami, Florida has been transformed into a magnet with world-class arts, culture, architecture and entertainment. The city’s diverse offerings will appeal to travelers of all ages and interests, especially those over the age of 50 who may have aged out of the “only seeking suntan” phase of life.
I was delighted to write a piece for Travelhoppers.com that describes five gems of Miami arts and culture.
The article showcases the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Wynwood Art District, the HistoryMiami Museum, and the Miami Historic District.

You’ve taken some great pictures of the museums and art galleries in your Miami gallery of photos! Good to know there’s LOTS more to do than soak up the sun in Miami :-).
