In this just released e-book, a seasoned journalist and traveler offers tips for older women traveling overseas.

If you are an older woman in your 60s, 70s or beyond, it can feel daunting to travel abroad, either alone or with friends. And it’s not all in your head.

Some women, who have been coupled and are now divorced or widowed, may find themselves traveling independently for the first time. Others may be traveling with companions with whom they’ve never traveled before. Then there are the pervasive uncertainties of the world in which we live in today.

In her new 53-page e-book, journalist Kay Harwell Fernandez offers readers a mix of inspiration and practical advice, acknowledging that even the most passionate female traveler needs to be sensible when traveling overseas. Safety issues can be a real concern in any part of the world, and the choice of itinerary needs to be appropriate to an individual’s stamina and any physical limitations. With those caveats in mind, the author reminds us that the possibilities of expanding one’s world through travel are still limitless.

This eminently readable book is broken into 22 chapters with such titles as:

  • You Say Potato, I Say Tomato: Choosing the right traveling companion
  • The Cane Mutiny: Adjusting to your physical limitations
  • Over the Lips and Under the Gums, Look Out Stomach Here It Comes: How to keep potential tummy problems at bay
  • Don’t Be a “Gaffey” Duck: How to avoid making gaffes in another culture
  • OK, It’s a Cliché, But Stop and Smell the Blooming Roses: Appreciating the simple things

This is an inspiring read for any older woman about to embark on a journey overseas or for the armchair traveler who is eager to travel but feels anxious about doing so.
